About stolen handphones

Dunno if anyone of you received this email

Take note....Don't take things for granted...It can happen to anyone of us....

A True Story : This lady has changed her habit onthe hand phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag which contained her mobile, credit card, purse etc. was stolen.

Twenty minutes later when she called her hubby, telling him what had happened, her hubby says 'I've just received your SMS asking about our Pin number and I've replied a little while ago.'

When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The pickpocket had actually used the stolen handphone to sms 'hubby' in the contact list and got hold of the pin number.

Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from the bank account.

Moral of the story: Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, Sweetheart,Dad, Mum etc......and very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked thru SMS, CONFIRM by calling back.

hotter as i think abt it...

gd 2 c the blog become livelier over the past few days...

anyway, since things r so heated up now, y still wanna do bbq 4 them? y we have 2 do everythin ourselves?

we gladly help tze qi since she kind enuff 2 suggest this & provide us wif the money... but since we r already buyin the food & carryin the food all the way back, y do we have 2 be the ones 2 marinate the food? y do we have 2 be the ones who sit by the fire & bbq the food? y do we have 2 be the ones 2 eat the last while others juz come down eat, pai pai pi gu & go back rm? worse, y do we allow others 2 juz drink booze tht terence bought from his own pocket? i cant complain too loud lah, coz lim beh have been drinkin alot of his free beer...but he say treat frens fair enuff, then wat abt pple who r not frens?

think we better guard the booze closely this time, or keep at our lvl this time...WAHAHA...if not got pple like felix ard...got freebies...no need mi 2 say too much ah? HAHAHA

but main thing is r we gonna gao ga liao again this time? everythin from top 2 bottom, from informin, buyin, carryin, cookin, payin, clearin up, to carryin pple back after they r drunk. we really gao ga liao sia...such gd service, y not we juz start a bbq service ourselves lah??? haha

Sibei sibei sian ar..

Received this email

I received many copies of this emails for the past few days.

Hey guys,
Please forward the below email to the residents. It's from the Hall Presidents, regarding action against triple room sharing. thanks!!

From:XXX

Dear Friends,

Rationale for black-tee idea against implementation of triple room

Once the idea of triple room was being brought upon the student leaders, we began by conducting surveys with students to find out whether the majority are for or against the idea. The results show that the majority even after hearing the school's rationale for implementation, are against the idea of the triple room sharing scheme.

Main reasons are decrease in comfort level (insufficient space in rooms), social issues (difference in culture) and lack of hall amenities (such as toilets, reading room etc). Up till now, the NTU administration has not been able to solve problems that will arise from the implementation of the triple room sharing scheme as stated above as it is not easy to tackle them.

As prospective freshmen are skeptical of the idea of triple sharing, the NTU administration has announced that they are not allocating all triple rooms to freshmen only which means seniors will also be allocated triple rooms.

We have voiced out our concern by showing them statistics and even counter proposing against the idea of triple rooms with the idea of having off-campus accommodation on the basis that off-campus accommodation would not put the students' welfare at stake. We believe that the idea of triple room sharing is something that many would not like to see being implemented.

As student leaders, we have fought and are still fighting for the welfare of our people. We had done all we can by giving constructive feedbacks and suggestions to the NTU administration but all our attempts have been to no avail. With this, the school will be making their final decision on 26th March. Hence, it is necessary to use other avenues to voice out to the school that majority of the student are against the idea of triple room sharing. As such, we have come up with this event, "My Voice" which will be on Tuesday, 25th March. It will be a day for all students to voice out your personal opinions against triple room sharing. We will be appealing to all students to wear black to school and in halls if you are against the triple room sharing scheme.

This is in the hope that after looking at the number of people who are against this idea, we can convince the NTU administration to change their mind for the well-being of the students who are currently living or are considering living in NTU in the future. We appeal to all to voice your opinions through "My Voice" to influence NTU's decision on triple sharing. Together with a common voice and a common cause we can create a better future and most importantly a better tomorrow.

Yours Sincerely,

Hall Presidents' Council

Although I wasn't really fond of triple rooms in halls, and have nothing against staging protest against the idea. But when I received this email, really feel that it is instigating people into following the idea of wearing black on tues, 25th. It does not really leave people with a choice to stay neutral to the problem doesn't it? either u are strongly for or strongly against the idea.

It is sending this message that it is either you wear black against triple room or you wear other colours and people will anti-you.

The school is expected to make a decision on the 26th of March on the issue and the action we take is on 25th of March. I feel that the effort will be like 'Jumping on to the MRT tracks when the train is jus 1min away' Whether the train can stop in time I'll see.

At this time I believe many of our friends are worrying about not being able to get a place in hall next semester, and this contradictory thing is happening asking us to protest against the idea of opening up more spaces in hall.

I certainly do not wish that my friends have to travel 2hrs back and forth from school everyday. And does not wish to see overflowing rubbish bins and toilet bowls from the increased occupancy rates in hall.

Following is my opinion on the pros and cons of triple sharing you can weigh it out yourself:

Pros
1. More of my friends can get to stay in hall.
2. My friends will not need to make tiring journeys from home to school and back.
3. Your friends will restort in getting off campus accomodation, at a fee times higher that of what you pay for hall.
4. Another roomie, another person who can help you with your school work.
5. Another person to keep the room clean.
6. More people involved in hall activities.
7. More block fund.

Cons
1. Our hall amenities cannot support more residents.
2. Inconvinent for people who make out in their rooms.
3. 3 people will quarrel over matters?
4. Room very cramp. Esp in Hall X in Block 50.
5. More underwear stolen.
6. Privacy.

Just my 2cents worth of opinion. Feel free to comment and discuss on this. Apologies if my thread clashes with the idea of people who are so strongly against triple sharing. I just want my fellow friends to have their own opinion on matters, not just wear black because you were told to do so. You still have a choice of whether to wear black ornot.

Felicia burial.

alright.. blog has been very quiet lately and its about felicia news. Alright i shall add in 1 last 1 on felicia.. Felicia burial... Yesterday with the help of 5 heroes. we managed to bury felicia at blk 50 grass patch.. How we dig the grass patch? with hammers, and some metal thingy.. and this is how we dug.

Alright.. thanks to xue qian.. the photos look so small.. And finally, we finished digging with a victory sign.

Alright, i felt that i went back to the army again for another round of BMT and Nutcracker. However, this time is without SBO, helmet and also long 4.. But this digging section is just as tired.. See how tired i am...

After digging, we went to collect Felicia body.. Btw, the body has decomposed and it gave out a very strong smell that make me vomited out.. see how smelly it can be

Actually me and terence was struggling with the body for quite some time as we are not able to bring the body up onto the dust pan. So we ask for more ppl for help.. No choice, Terence ask James for help.. And james is like so power la... it just took less than 5 min and the body is thrown into the plastic bag to be carried back to blk 50. Actually we manage to flip felicia to the other side and we saw the big wound on her. din manage to take a photo of that but the wound is near the stomach. And i guess that is the fatal injury. Felicia body is black in colour and the wound is like redish white.. Abit er xin though..

And now Felicia is back in Blk 50 and she is covered with lots of sands and soil.. Thanks terence for all the sand that he has found.

And 1 last step.. make the soil packed together and we left a stone there.. That is tombstone.. I hope felicia can rest in peace now and hope she can bless us.. Thank to those who have helped out in the burial and i also thanks to those who refuse to help out..

The end

BBQ!

Hi everyone! There will be an all-expenses paid BBQ this coming thursday, 20th March! Please comment with any food preferences etc k, but be realistic la haha. Also if you have time during afternoon/ early evening volunteer to buy food!! Incentive is that you can choose whatever you want to eat! Haha okay do let your roomies/ neighbours/ corridormates know k? Free food for all!!! (BYO)

Felicia

Same as Kevin, this is my first post... I dun noe how to describe the sadness i have with the passing on of this special fren... she was still like usual that night, sleeping along the corridor... all seems so well... never expect that was the last time i see her...

Recently, was still quite glad that there will be at least one person (xq) will look after her when we left, but now....

When i came back juz now, i was still hopping to see the usual sight of her seeing me from far and jump down from the shelves and start meowing for food.... its not the same any more... Will miss your meowing in the morning when i woke up, you always seems to noe when i step down from my bed, before i even open my door... will miss your brushing on my leg and how cute your short tail is when it swings....and all the time you have spend outside my room since last semester-2007... Feli, you will always be remembered...

Felicia

well.. im the third to post about the pass on of our special friend.. Sometimes, its when u lost something, then u will start to cherish it. Some time we will like play with her.. meow with her and even splash water at her.. Sometimes, we may not have cherished her enough.. Blaming her for the loud moaning that she has made.

Felicia is just like our blk 50 bond.. The cat that everyone in 50 loves in common, the cat topic that we had. With out her, will our spirit in blk 50 fallen too?

Now, she is gone... leaving behind so many love ones... I still remember when i was staying in level 3 that time.. she came to me and meow for food.. Since its was a cute kitten then.. i have decided to keep her. and feed her with my bread or cat food. almost 2.5 yrs have past.. She has accompany me throughout my hall life.. Sawing her mating with her fellow cat mate, moaning at 5 am in the morning, the giving birth of 4 lovely kitten, the shit she has given me at the grass patch outside my door. All this will be deeply remembered..

Im sorry felicia that i cant be there during the attack.. but i promise, i will remember u deep inside my heart.....

below are some of the pic with her children.. and that all the pic we have on her.. Lets hope.. She can be something good in her next life.. We will miss you

Felicia (Departed on 15 Mar 2008)

This is my first post but it's a very sad one. Being one of the few who witnessed the whole incident makes it very hard to forget abt it. Knowing that the damage was done and seeing her in real pain at that moment, we could onli stand by her side and watched helplessly. Tat kinda of feeling definitely is not good!!

I'm sure ppl like Junzhao, Xueqian and including myself will feel more sad becoz of her presence outside our rooms. It'll be a very weird feeling not to see her hanging out along our corridors anymore.

Anyway, i hope tat ppl in the hall can help to give our beloved friend a proper burial. At least this is the last good thing tat we can give to her rite? Below are some pics tat i took before i shifted out of my room...hope it'll bring back some gd memories to u guys.

The Passing of A Friend

At 4a.m last night, the life of one of hallx50 well-loved resident was abruptly taken from us. Felicia, the black cat that everyone sees lazing outside junzhao's room has passed on. Witnesses such as Kevin and Freddie saw the whole incident unfold in front of their very own eyes. Here is a recall of the whole incident...

Half asleep, fred heard a commotion outside, a mixture of barks and meows. He told kevin, his bunk slut for the night and both went to investigate. They saw Felicia and a brown wild dog locked in their gazes. Suddenly, the dog charged forward and took a chunk of feli's thigh in its mouth and was flinging his food around. Enraged by the actions, fred and kev took a dustpan and threw it down, hoping to scare the intruder away. The plan worked, however all was too late. Felicia was already fighting for her dear life. Their search for mobile vets proved futile. That was when we lost her...

I still remember felicia when she was young. She had followed us up to our block and since then, she has made herself comfortable here. The few of us took care to take care of her, playing with her except for one jek ark kia by the name of jasen who is always disturbing her.. I guess he is the happiest of them all now... fucking cb. We even witnessed felicia giving birth to 4 beautiful kittens which have already been given away. I will never forget how she will brush her head against my legs and how she will purr at me whenever she is hungry.. I was always saying, "die la...once we graduate, no one feed her, she cfm die." well.. i guess she dint make it till den.. :(

You will always be deeply remembered by us Feli...Rest well in heaven... To those that has once made it into Feli's short-lived legacy, pls leave any msgs as comments...

SINGAPORE
TRIPLE- SHARE ROOMS IN NTU?
Students mount online protest
THE rooms are so cramped that a loft bed has to be stacked above a study table.

Students at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) gave an earful after they got an eyeful of new triple-sharing “showrooms” set up in the residence halls last week.

Faced with the prospect of possibly having to cram in a room with two other people, NTU students made their views known on popular online forums, video-sharing sites and blogs.

Fast making its rounds is a virtual tour of a triple-sharing room, uploaded onto video-sharing site YouTube by a student who had visited it.

Since it was uploaded on 29 Feb, it has racked up about 2,700 views.

A student even spoofed a popular Chinese pop song, and made a video comparing the new rooms to foreign workers’ quarters.

Another recorded himself knocking his head on the base of the loft bed while standing up from the study table.

And on social networking site Facebook, there is a 685-strong group which calls itself “Say NO to NTU triple-sharing rooms in halls”.

A short write-up on the group’s webpage is telling: “Next semester, we are all going to be like foreign workers, squeezing into small living quarters which is definitely far away from an ideal living-on-campus experience.”

NTU students whom The New Paper spoke to said they had heard about double-sharing rooms being converted to triple-sharing rooms in late January.

OPEN FOR VIEWING
But the prospect became more apparent when hall residents received an e-mail last week notifying them that the triple-sharing showrooms were ready for viewing.

Students said the size of each room is about that of a regular bedroom in a five-room HDB flat.

The New Paper managed to obtain a copy of the e-mail.

It read: “We are pleased to inform you that two triple-sharing showrooms displaying two different room layouts are set up in Hall 13 and Hall 14 respectively and are now ready for viewing.

“Hence, we will like to invite you to personally view the proposed room layout and at the same time receive your input on the preferred room layout.”

However, a spokesman from NTU’s student affairs office said the triple-sharing room concept is “still in the proposal stage and nothing has been confirmed”.

He added the university is still seeking students’ feedback.

Undergraduates now pay between $155 and $190 a month for a twin-sharing room.

It is not known how much they will pay to share a triple room.

NTU has 16 residence halls, which house some 9,200 students. They are located on the university’s Yunnan Garden campus in the Boon Lay area.

More than 80 per cent of NTU hall residents share rooms. At the National University of Singapore’s Kent Ridge campus, more than half of the hall residents live in single rooms.

A standard single room at NUS costs about $300 a month, and a standard twin room, about $200 a month.

NTU and NUS also have air-conditioned rooms which cost more.

FEEDBACK
The New Paper understands that representatives from the NTU student body are meeting with the school administration next week to give their views on the triple-sharing room proposal.

In the meantime, vocal students continue to make their views known.

Second-year undergraduate Liew Shixiong, 23, who is staying in a twin-sharing room, foresees problems with the triple-sharing room concept.

He said: “It’s already very cramped with two people. And having three guys in a room would cause hygiene problems – it’ll get so smelly with all the dirty clothes.”

He added that relations between roommates could be strained with an additional person in the room.

He said: “I know people who have problems getting along with their roommate. With three in the room, there’s the possibility that two could gang up against one.”

He was also concerned that the triple-sharing rooms would not be conducive for studying.

“Most of us staying in the halls do so because we want to study, he said. “Most of us study in our rooms and it’s important to be comfortable.”

Agreeing, third-year undergraduate Emery Ong, 23, said most of his peers stayed in the halls as they are “quiet and conducive for studying”.

Student bloggers from NTU echoed these sentiments.

One wrote: “For a hostel room designed to house two residents, an additional resident will mean hygiene problems, noise, relationship and space issues.

“Please NTU, stop behaving badly and listen to the students. And students of NTU, stand together and protest.”

Another blogger agreed: “Why should I accept poorer living conditions if I am paying good money to live ‘comfortably’? Is it really that difficult to build new halls?”

Blogger Kureshii expressed concern for the cleanliness of common areas.

He wrote: “Have you seen what happens when 20 people share the kitchen sink, toilet and trash bins on the same floor?

“Instant noodles clog up the sink drain, crockery gets left around the hot-water dispenser area, trash bins overflow with spilling drink cans.

“Now imagine 1.5 times of that. Might as well throw in a flu epidemic.”

However, one blogger, The Matrix, was a little more optimistic.

He said the new rooms were “not bad”, and that a triple-sharing living arrangement could be fun, provided the roommates are decent people.

For a hostel room designed to house two residents, an additional resident will
mean hygiene problems, noise, relationship and space issues...

insect kingdom!

I'm sure most of you know by now besides being the unofficial bird park, petting zoo and reptile park, 50 is also the unofficial insect kingdom!

A few months ago I was doing work in Kenny's room when suddenly there was a commotion at the toilet area. I then heard my name being called + the frenzied request to bring along my camera. Of course I ran out la. Gotta find out what got these grown men undies in a twist.

I entered the male toilet (2.5th time in my entire life) and came face to face with this:

Chey!! Moth only right? What's the big deal?

Well, in true 50 insect style, this was a BIG deal, literally:

Attempts to show scale:

It's almost as big as JASEN'S face!

It's BIGGER than liwei's hand!!

Behind-the-scenes:

Basically there was a lot of jostling and shouting going on! (you don't see Felix here but he was in the background shouting whenever someone got close to the moth in attempt to make everyone as scared as him haha) It's hard to show scale in photos but this moth is really like papa moth la it was HUUUGE.

ANYWAYS! I was thinking of having the bbq on friday since it's like the popular choice, but realised that it clashed with ONE NIGHT STAND!! Which is totally fun and awesome and everyone should just go go go! Free trip to Kallang Leisure Park which is so super ulu and leh cheh to go by yourself so make use of this great opportunity! Plus its a free-and-easy thing so can go ice skate, bowl, shop at cold storage, eat, watch move, whatever you want!!! Exciting right! After that can go bukit timah for supper! You all were talking about treasuring the remaining bits of hall life right, what better way to celebrate hall life with good friends and great food? So everybody!!!! Go one night stand!! (ONS!)

Dancing shoes...

During the course of our studies, we often have to make use of multimedia for that added BANG.

Courtesy of Jian ping, Fred and You ren, here we share one fine example of an advertisement you'll probably never see on TV.

Maybe it'll make the cut for top ten original ideas.
So sit back, relax and get ready for a belly full of laughs... hahahaha

Excuse me, are you studying for quiz?

A student's life is often peppered with unavoidable occurances. One of which is a mildly dreaded quiz. The simple 4 letter word strikes fear into the hearts of even the most hardworking mugger and hardcore slacker alike.
Here are some events that follow quiz week...

1. Supper

The law of studying states that
no food = cannot think.
But beware, for the converse is also true that with too much food, brain cannot function.
Food >>> Studying, Brain => Sleep, Food => Fat

2. KPKB (cry father cry mother)

Studying takes a toll on us all, no matter of you get A or F, the process of studying is often not enjoyable which in turn raises our mental stress meter. How to relief stress? Complain lor.. Complain this, complain that.. suddenly as your fellow mates alike share the same sentiments, the overall effects of stress seem to lessen.
Study = Effort + Stress, (-1)Stress = Complain ^n (n = no. of complain king/queens)

3. Studying efficiency

As the quiz date draws nearer, we somehow also experience an exponential increase in mental capacity. Things that we could not comprehend just hours ago start to make sense. (could also be due to hallucination). While panic and excitement sets in, adrenaline will give you the added boost to heighten our sensory capabilities.
Mental capacity = K exp ^ n (K = original capacity, n =no. days since started studying)

So stock up on your Ginko biloba and omega 3, and have fun studying for your quizzes. Remember, a quiz can be an enjoyable experience.. only if you get an A. ;o)

For those of you who went and have other prices to include, please feel free to edit this post for the glory and good of all ...

*you can never have too much space*

International Cultural Night 50 style

The original dinner plans of Sio Liwei Jianping and Jasen were abandoned when they found out that NIE is hosting an event remembered for the free flow of tiger beer and buffet dinner rather than its name.

In the end we went down on the lorry with Daqing only to be denied entry into the venue because of improper dress code (most probably by Jasen). However this does not deter the spirit of fostering international cultural exchange within our block 50 gang, so we decided to have one of our own outside the actual venue.
4 different style of international buffets.

NOT forgetting the free flow of beer!!!!

After collecting our own door gifts, we were driven off to city harvest extension.

Whizzzed off to city harvest for dinner after a short night of international friendship. International buffet cant beat local delights like hokkien mee and fried kway tieow.

FICO aftermath..

After enjoying a night of misty football at FICO, the 3 of us decided to walk back to block 50.

We can't even see the road infront of us.....

The front man clears the spiderweb...

Finally see some light..

IN the end, walking back is as tiring as play soccer for the whole night.

The Emo KKJ

Looking at the video that James posted last night, I can't help but to feel a dash of sadness falling upon me... everything has been moving so quickly, like a blink of an eye, or like how fast I can finish my 10 races in Petrolhead before staring at my screen for another 12 hours, a lot of us are graduating soon! There are so many things that I wish I had done, like spending more time with my blockmates... it seems like right now time is against me... so Blk 50ers, treasure your time here, because before you know it, time will catch up with you and you will be lamenting about how little time you actually have!

Anyway just to be shameless to promote my band, we are playing at various places soon!
8th March, 3pm - NTU Open House 2008

A star is born..

Amongst us, we sometimes find a crooner.
These talents have served to entertain us during hall events and such.
Here's a little clip of one such "old" crooner.
Enjoy..

Hall awards 2008

Hall awards marks the start of the end.
All too soon, we'll panic and scream as exams draw near.
After that, we'll bid farewell to some older birds who are leaving our cosy nest.

To our younger brothers and sisters, may you have as wonderful a time as we did.
Here's a little legacy of what we achieved this past year.

43-year-old man shot dead by police at Outram Park MRT

SINGAPORE : A 43-year-old man was shot by Police at Outram Park MRT Station on Thursday afternoon. The incident happened on the boarding platform for West-bound trains at Outram Park station just before 4pm. Police say the man was involved in a stabbing incident earlier at nearby Jalan Kukoh, where another man was killed. Paul Nicholas Chong, Eyewitness, said: "We were waiting when suddenly we heard a gunshot. Everybody was frantic and running around. We ran behind the wall and hid for about 5 to 10 seconds. When everything settled down, we went out to take a look. The person was holding his chest, he went "Ahhhh", and then he fell down very loudly." Police say the dead man matched the description of a suspect involved in a stabbing incident at nearby Jalan Kukoh. But when officers approached him at the MRT station, he retaliated with a knife. Eyewitnesses say the knife was about 15 centimetres long. That was when one officer fired his revolver at the man, who died on the spot. No one else was injured. Commander of the Central Police Division, Superintendent Lau Peet Meng said, "The armed and dangerous suspect approached my officers in a threatening manner at close proximity. In the circumstances, considering that he was suspected to have just killed another man, the officer had no choice but to open fire." Train services were not disrupted but officers cordoned off the mid-section of the station and blocked off about four doors to the trains for about two hours. Earlier, officers were alerted to another dead man at a hawker centre at Block 1 Jalan Kukoh. A man in his fifties was stabbed in the stomach just before 3pm. He is believed to have been knifed by the man who was shot at Outram Park MRT Station. The Police cordon at the station was lifted some two hours after the shooting. Several members of the public had called the Channel NewsAsia hotline to ask if there was any connection with the search for Jemaah Islamiyah fugitive Mas Selamat Kastari. But Police clarified that the murder and shooting was in no way related to the search
